I love the book because of Scarlett's character, even though I wanted to slap her frequently throughout the story. But that is true characterization when you can make readers hate your characters at times and still love them. Scarlett was vain, selfish, petty and insensitive, but she was also an insecure little girl who always felt she wasn't good enough to be her mother's daughter or to deserve the love of the people she cared about.
